GOODBYE DEBT—HELLO FREEDOM! Most of us grew up with the idea that there is good debt and there is bad debt. Good debts are generally considered to be debts you incur to buy things that can go up in value—like a home or college education. Bad debts are things like credit card balances, where you borrowed money to buy things that depreciate or go down in value, like most consumer goods. But as America’s favorite financial coach, David Bach, points out, in difficult times there is no such thing as good debt. There is only debt. And all debt is too expensive—if what you desire is FREEDOM! In fact, Bach believes the best investment you can make today is to pay down your debt, faster and smarter than you have ever attempted before—starting today! In Debt Free for Life, #1 New York Times best-selling author David Bach has written his most groundbreaking and important book since The Automatic Millionaire, giving us the knowledge, the tools, and the mindset we need to get out of debt and achieve financial freedom— forever! Offering a revolutionary approach to personal finance that teaches you how to pay down your debt and adopt a whole new way of living – debt free. Bach unveils the Debt Wise program that empowers you to pare down your debt automatically. You’ll learn how to calculate your Debt Freedom Day – the actual date you will be completely free of debt. And you’ll discover that when you are debt free, you need a lot less money to live on. You can retire, even with a smaller nest egg -- perhaps earlier than you expected. David Bach has coached millions to pay off their debt and now he can guide you. Whether you have home loans, student loans, car loans, credit card debt—paying down your debt is truly a game you can win, if you know the rules. Debt Free For Life will teach you the rules and give you the tools to buy back your freedom. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Erik Davies. This week in Studio 360, two takes on motherhood. In Isabella Rossellini’s new series of web videos, she acts out unusual childrearing strategies — abandonment, cannibalism — in the animal kingdom. And a listener explains how Mary Karr taught her what she needed to know about having a teenage boy. Plus, a physicist finds beauty in the race to find dark matter, and musician Marques Toliver finds the common ground between Quincy Jones and J. S. Bach. [Broadcast Date: May 11, 2013] 1. To the Best of Our Knowledge: Why Do We Love Sa...

In this hour, why do we love sad songs? It’s true, we do, and it’s not just “Greensleeves” and “Yesterday.” There’s a language of melancholy worth exploring. The saddest music of all to many people is Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings.” Thomas Larson is the author of The Saddest Music Ever Written: The Story of Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings and he tells Anne Strainchamps how it earns that name. Then, sad songs are just part of the story. Anyone who has suffered a broken heart knows the satisfaction of listening to Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” or Paul McCartney singing “Yesterday.” According to psychologist Meagan Curtis, the inherent sadness of the minor third is what we hear in music. She tells Steve Paulson that a recent study suggests it is also what we hear in speech.Next, there are sad songs in rock, and sad songs in jazz, but the resting place for the saddest songs is clearly in country music. There are so many we just didn’t how to choose, so we put the question to the foremost historian of country music in America, Bill Malone. He tells Steve Paulson a thing or two about sad country music. And finally, no matter what genre you’re writing for, adding a cello can increase the melancholy. It’s true now, and it was true a couple of centuries ago when J.S. Bach was writing his suites for unaccompanied cello. Journalist Eric Siblin had written about rock for years, but he tells Jim Fleming about his discovery of Bach, and how he came to write The Cello Suites: J.S. Bach, Pablo Casals, and the Search for a Baroque Masterpiece. [Broadcast Date: November 18, 2011] 1. Language: English. Breaking into an art museum with works worth tens of millions of dollars should be harder than stealing from a Walmart, right? Perhaps not. Next, Martin McDonagh has made a career writing dark comedies in which blood flows by the gallon, but his own story reads more like a Dickens novel. Then, in 1982, the song “Walking in LA” by the new wave pop band Missing Persons quickly made Los Angeles the poster child for a national bad habit. After that, in the new book Reinventing Bach, Paul Elie explores how performers and recording artists of the last century — including organist Albert Schweitzer, pianist Glenn Gould, and cellist Pablo Casals — kept teasing out the new in Bach's 300-year-old music. And finally, Mary Miller fell in love with a man who made his fortune flipping houses. But when the relationship ended, Mary wasn’t just heartbroken — she wanted to beat him at his own game. [Broadcast Date: October 27, 2012] 1. Language: English. Narrator: Kurt Andersen. Über 200 Bilder zeigen Sachsen in all seinen Facetten. The Free State of Saxony, the most easterly of Germany"s federal states, is diverse in both its culture and scenery from the highest point in the land, Fichtelberg, in the Erzgebirge to the jagged precipices of the Elbsandsteingebirge, from the Saxon Wine Route hugging the gentle contours of the River Elbe to the romantic valleys of the Mulde and Zschopau. The entire region has profited from its rich natural resources, with the metal deposits in the Erzgebirge funding Saxony"s glorious development of the arts. Many of the most important buildings in Saxony and particularly Dresden date back to the rule of Augustus the Strong under whose auspicious patronage Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann made architectural dreams come true. What the Zwinger, Schloss, Hofkirche and Semper Opera House are to Dresden, the historic trade centres and merchant stores are to Leipzig, its most famous being the Mädlerpassage with Auerbachs Keller and Goethe"s "Faust". Chemnitz is a city of secular cathedrals, of imposing monuments to industrial architecture from the "Gründerzeit" of the late 19th century. From the Muskauer Heide to the Vogtland, from the Leipziger Tieflandbucht to the Elbsandsteingebirge Saxony is portrayed here in over 200 colour photos. Neue Wege will Rinderknecht aufzeigen, Horizonte erweitern. Von seinen bislang 24 Showcars mag dies dem sQuba am spektakulärsten gelungen sein. There once was a car capable of diving. Roger Moore as James Bond and his co-star Barbara Bach drove a white Lotus Esprit S1 under water in the 1977 film 'The Spy Who Loved Me'. But the trick only worked as a professional special effect in the movie studio. In contrast, the Rinspeed sQuba from 2008 is pure reality. It really dives on its own power - and prominently emerges repeatedly as a reminiscence in the retrospective of the visionary work of Frank M. Rinderknecht. He wants to offer up new paths, broaden horizons. Of his 24 show cars to date, the sQuba arguably succeeded in doing so in the most spectacular fashion.
